Mother Xavier and the Pope
On my recent trip to Leavenworth, Kansas (July 27, 2009) I met Mother Xavier who founded the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth. I wonder what she would think if she walked on to this ultra modern campus today? Some things she would be pleased with, such as the efficiency with which the place operates. However, I don't think she would approve of the various chapels, on the campus or what is now taught here. Three Bishops are buried on these grounds, including Bishop Miege, the first Bishop west of the Mississippi, who was first located at Saint Marys, Kansas in the mid 1850's.
Saying of Mother Xavier founder of the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth: Never say ‘can’t’. Try before using the word ‘can’t’. Once you begin a thing, see it through to the end. Furthermore, if you see anything that needs to be done, do it! Don’t wait to be asked or told. This is your home; take care of it. Use your common sense and keep our home as well as it can be kept; thereby we honor God.
